A Sculptural Approach to Lighting
This Spring, Haslam West collaborates with artist Cathy Green to produce a limited range of handmade ceramic table lamps.

A friendship with ceramist Cathy Green and Lucy Haslam was forged on the school run, at a time when both were balancing family life in Wimbledon alongside demanding careers. Fifteen years later, with their children now older, both have found the time and mental space to pursue creative ambitions of their own.
Haslam West was launched in 2025 with friend and colleague Rosanna Westmacott. Meanwhile, Cathy—whose original career was in banking IT—has transitioned into a full-time artist. She began exploring her passion for clay through a Diploma course at Putney School of Art, followed by an HND in ceramics from Morley College, which she is in the process of converting into a full degree.
Cathy now works from home and runs popular workshops from her Southfields studio, SW London.
Cathy has combined her passion for problem-solving with a newfound love of clay, experimenting with geometrical form for a range of custom-made sculptural table lamps. The results are both striking and beautiful. Architectural and playful at the same time, the light falls in beautiful ways as the different glazes bring not only colour but interesting texture.
Her distinctive shapes are formed from the Rhombic Triacontahedron – a shape with 32 vertices, 60 edges (all the same length) and 30 identical rhombic faces. Each face has the dimensions of the Golden Rhom – exactly equal to the ‘golden ratio’ – studied by artists and architects for millenia for its visually pleasing dimensions, and for its presence in natural forms. The same dimensions can be found in the spiral arrangement of some plant and animal forms – the seeds in a sunflower head, or the shape of a nautilus shell.
The design and making process is labour intensive with the complex shapes first formed in foam board before being slip cast in hand-made plaster moulds. Each is then dried and fired to 1000 degrees centigrade before being finished with bespoke brass fittings and a braided flex to become a finished lamp.
